Calculate your take-home pay after federal tax, state tax, Social Security, and Medicare deductions.
This calculator converts your gross annual salary into net take-home pay by deducting: - **Social Security:** 6.2% on wages up to $168,600 (2024) - **Medicare:** 1.45% on all wages (an additional 0.9% applies above $200,000) - **Federal income tax:** Based on your estimated marginal rate - **State income tax:** Based on your state's rate For example: $75,000 gross salary at 22% federal rate and 5% state rate → approximately $49,463 annual take-home, or $1,903 per bi-weekly paycheck. Note: This is an estimate. Actual deductions depend on filing status, pre-tax deductions (401k, HSA, health insurance), and state-specific rules.
FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act) covers Social Security (6.2%) and Medicare (1.45%). Employers match these amounts. On $75,000 gross, you pay $4,650 Social Security + $1,087.50 Medicare = $5,737.50 FICA annually. There is no cap on Medicare; Social Security applies to the first $168,600 of wages in 2024.
Nine states have no state income tax: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire (interest/dividends only), South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. If you live in one of these, enter 0% for state tax rate.
Pre-tax deductions reduce taxable income: 401(k) contributions, HSA/FSA contributions, and employer-sponsored health insurance premiums. If you have significant pre-tax deductions, your actual take-home pay may be higher than shown. The calculator also does not account for additional Medicare tax (0.9%) on income above $200,000.
