Add or remove Australian GST at 10% or zero rate. Instant gross and net price calculation.
Australian GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a broad-based tax of 10% on most goods, services, and other things consumed in Australia. **Adding GST:** Gross = Net × 1.10. Example: A$1,000 + 10% GST = A$1,100. **Removing GST:** Net = Gross ÷ 1.10. Example: A$1,100 ÷ 1.10 = A$1,000 net, A$100 GST. GST-free supplies include: fresh food, medical services, educational courses, and childcare. Input-taxed supplies (financial services, residential rent) do not include GST and cannot claim input tax credits. Registration is required when annual GST turnover exceeds A$75,000.
The standard GST rate is 10%. GST-free supplies (0%) include basic food, medical and health services, educational courses, childcare, and exports. Input-taxed supplies include financial services, residential rent, and precious metals; these don't collect or claim GST.
Divide the gross amount by 11 to get the GST component. Alternatively, divide by 1.1 for the net. Example: A$550 GST-inclusive ÷ 11 = A$50 GST, net = A$500. The ATO calls this the 'gross price divided by 11' method.
You must register for GST if your GST turnover is A$75,000 or more per year (A$150,000 for non-profits). Taxi and rideshare drivers must register regardless of turnover. Voluntary registration below the threshold is allowed and lets you claim GST credits on business expenses.
